Review of Ray (2004) by Ivan K — 06 Sep 2009
Another biopic that fails to live up to the larger than life lead performance given by Jamie Foxx. Watching Foxx in the role of Ray Charles felt less like an actor emulating the person, rather than watching the actual person.
The supporting players were good, but dwarfed by Foxx's overwhelming presence, which in many ways overshadowed the film itself. It really failed to be gripping, and in many ways came off as a cookie-cutter surviving drug addiction film, rather than a truly representative portrait of the life of the genius, Ray Charles.
