Review of Ravenous (1999) by Ray D — 07 Jun 2008
Offbeat little dark comedy/shaggy dog story about cannibalism on the frontier in the 1840's. Guy Pearce plays against type as a cowardly hero, and Robert Carlyle is possibly the littlest wee bloodthirsty maniac in history.
Not to all tastes, but the pitch-black comedy and emphasis on the characters, as well as some beautiful scenery and camerawork from Antonia Bird, supported by Damon Albarn's effective horror-movie-industrial score make it worth viewing.
