Review of Ravenous (1999) by Ashton R — 28 Mar 2008
Happened to catch this little gem a few weeks ago on IFC Grindhouse. Didn't expect much -the premise alone is almost laughable- but I was pleasantly surprised. A taut thriller with hefty amounts of gore and a dash of dark humor, not to mention stellar acting by everyone in it.
The music is hypnotic and quirky, matching the tone of the film perfectly (although most people find it annoying). And if you care to plunge deeper into the narrative, it has some interesting insight on Manifest Destiny.
Also, one of the best endings I've ever seen. NOT to be missed.
