Ignore the critics--the movie is great. Fans of the games should enjoy it, it's an adaptation done right. The characterization is consistent with the games, the humor is the same, etc. As an adaptation it's a nicely done one.
As a movie, it's still good. It may not have the most complex plot, but it's really nice to see a good, fun movie you don't have to hyper-analyze to understand and enjoy. It's colorful and nice. If you have kids, bring them! If you don't, see it if you enjoy a colorful adventure with cute, fun characters.
You'll definitely enjoy it more as a player of the games, but you don't have to have played them to follow along and enjoy it.
