Review of Rat Race (2001) by Anatoliy S — 24 Nov 2008
"Rat Race" quite simply made me laugh harder than any movie in quite some time. Comedy is tough to make, and although this is not an award-winning film, you have to give credit where credit is deserved.
It gets on a roll, and doesn't stop. There were several sequences that had me tearing up from laughing too long & too loud. Jerry Zucker, God bless him, has a deft touch for zany screwball fun.
The cast is not full of comedians, but they all do a great job. Especially Cuba Gooding Jr. His facial expressions alone are classic here, as when he reacts to a floating cow, or a Man-"Lucy".
I will say this though: I saw this "Race" in a theater that was packed full of adults, teens, little kids, grandparents,..you name it. And EVERYONE was howling with laughter. I guess "Rat Race" hit everyone's funny-bone.
But, the theater's 'laugh track' also made this movie much more FUN to laugh along with. So, when you rent "Rat Race", make sure to have a roomful of people who like to laugh! I give this movie the highest mark, simply for making me laugh harder than I have in a long, long time.
