Review of Rat Race (2001) by Guido S — 11 Jan 2014
A casino owner devises a plan to basically play a cross country race to win $2 million dollars. There are a ton of characters, from Gooding as a shamed NFL ref, Amy Smart as a crazy pilot trying to get revenge on her ex played by Dean Cain, Whoopi Goldberg and her long lost daughter, Jon Lovitz and his family, and many more That's my biggest complaint, it feels like there are just too many characters and it is hard to tell a decent story as a result.
There are some great individual moments, like the Hitler museum, Smart dumping paint on her ex, the I Love Lucy bus, and a few others. They just felt like random sketches because there really isn't a good narrative to bring them together as well as it should.
Could have been good, but this was just excessive in too many ways;.
