Review of Rashomon (1950) by Graham R — 29 Jun 2009
A great, early Kurosawa effort that still feels fresh and original to this day. The story's simple: a rape and murder in the woods, but what really happens? Kurosawa uses this as a basis for an exploration of multiple themes, focusing on the nature of perception and truth vs.
lie. He elicits fine performances from the likes of Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura and his story later inspired many other films.
