Review of Rashomon (1950) by Jordan A — 08 Feb 2010
Glad to have seen it because it's such a classic, but was slightly unprepared for the acting style, which felt over the top to this modern viewer. (Based in kabuki? Or just typical of the style of the time? On the Waterfront felt overacted to me too.) That said, certainly thought-provoking, and easy to draw a direct line from this to The Usual Suspects and even something like Gambit, despite the wildly different styles.
Tempted to watch it again, which is a recommendation...
