Review of Rashomon (1950) by Kerry L — 18 Nov 2010
It is confusing, has an odd ending, and intense sword fights, which make the film absolutely fascinating and a work of art. This film set the bar for Japanese sword fighting epics for decades to follow.
The acting is so powerful, that it is too bad it was not acknowledged by the Academy Awards of 1950, unlike some foreign films today. As well, the inconclusive point that derives from the different stories of who murdered this one man is really great and something I had not seen on screen before.
Indeed, a masterly piece of work, and one that all foreign film lovers, along with Japanese, should watch.
