Review of Rashomon (1950) by David L — 07 Sep 2014
With brilliant plot, wonderful cinematography, fully realized characters, amazing acting and powerful ending, Rashomon is also thought-provoking, poignant, smart and groundbreaking in both cinematography (use of sunlight) and plot structure (told from different perspectives and ambiguous).
The movie also has an interesting, dark and creepy supernatural sequence, gloomy but relevant message and wonderful, still hopeful ending. It is an absolute masterpiece, one of the best films of the decade and one of the very best Japanese films ever made.
