Review of Ran (1985) by Henry C — 29 Feb 2008
Kurosawa has influenced so many of our greats - Lucas, Spielberg, Coppola - RAN represents the pinnacle of his movie making magic adapting the King Lear story to feudal Japan. Tatsuya Nakadai (remember him as the gunslinging thug in Yojimbo) is simply commanding and tragic as the old war lord.
Kurosawa's direction of battle scenes i.e. no sound is truly breathtaking.
