Review of Ran (1985) by Darryl J — 01 Oct 2008

I have never been wowed by a Kurosawa film until now. This is an overwhelming achievement. I like his b&w films, don't get me wrong, but the way he uses color is astounding. Every frame of this film is like a painting come to life.

There are numerous scenes where my jaw dropped (really) from just the images that he creates. The first battle scene is something straight out of hell. The story is simple but wonderful. I wish Kurosawa was around to make more color masterpieces.

I'm glad we,at least, have this one.
