Review of Ran (1985) by Buddy K — 28 Feb 2010
A friend of mine has criticized this film as being to slow in pace, a criticism I don't really understand but to each their own. Ran is one of the best films Akira Kurosawa ever made if not his best (Rashomon, Yojimbo and Seven Samurai could also be considered for this title).
This is a film made by somebody who had at that time mastered all there is to master in the art of film and I think that every aspect of it acting, scenery, direction and even the pacing cry perfection.
Anybody who enjoys this re imagining of Shakespeare's King Lear should also check out Throne of Blood, Kurosawa's reinterpretation of Macbeth.
