Review of Ran (1985) by Michael R — 18 Nov 2010
One cannot escape the past, all mistakes eventually come due. Indulging in evil boomerangs back to you and renders reality a form of hell. At the end as he dies Hidetora has self-pity but no remorse, outlook not good for him.
Since neither Shakespeare nor Kurosawa were evil per se, they wrote from experience of advanced souls being tested by fire. Real evil often doesn't become aware until it's too late to change. Did I stumble across a contradiction in Shakespeare's artistic ambitions just now? Yes.
Tragedy is like a Jason Friday the 13th movie for classics.
