Review of Ran (1985) by Viktor B — 19 Jul 2013
This is Akira Kurosawas true masterpiece, not The Seven Samurai. While that film was also more than excellent this is the true crowning achievement of his career. It has an excellent, plot, exquisitely written script, and manages to deliver a sense of spectacle without being over the top.
Ran is a tale of power, war, and human cruelty. It may be too bleak for some people, but any fan of cinema should see this one. This film can be seen as THE justification for why Kurosawa is seen as one of the most revered names in film history.
