Review of Ramona and Beezus (2010) by Jane L — 10 Aug 2014
As a diehard fan of the original source material, I can safely say that RAMONA AND BEEZUS is a sweet retelling. True, it's a bit sugar coated and occasionally too sappy, but it's harmless enough and has a likable cast.
Joey King turned in a fine performance as Ramona, and even Selena Gomez wasn't a bad (though not exactly ideal) Beezus. The two actresses had marvelous chemistry, and the supporting cast did as well.
This movie could have been a lot better, but it could have also been worse (imagine if this was directed by the guy who made DIARY OF A WIMPY KID!). It's charming and harmless, and I certainly wouldn't dissuade anyone from seeing this film.
