Review of Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) by Blake H — 07 Jun 2010
Well it was a sequal to a movie that "had" to have one, but didn't need one. I wasn't around when the first film came out, but I can only imagine what everybody was saying. "Wow wouldn't it be awesome if we were able to see Rambo when he was actually fighting bad guys, and not just be a fugitive?" Well here ya go...a grade C movie that goes overboard with everything that it tries to accomplish.
In the first film I think only 1 or 2 people died...well they wernt going to have that be the case in this film. Lets just have Rambo kill 150 Vietcong...yeah that makes sense. Sometimes not killing people can make the movie more realistic. This movie tries to make him into a superhero. He's juts a soldier...not superman.
One little thing I liked was the ending message that they tried to get across. And that was that we have to respect our soldiers no matter how you feel about any war. A message that was brought up in the 1st film as well.
So all and all, not the best. Some good action sequences, but way too overboard with the plot and killing. I know this is how we remember Rambo now...just a guy with a huge machine gun on one arm just blowing away bad guys without any bullets hitting him in return. But it didn't have to be the case.
A classic situation of great 1st film...bad 2nd. We must be used to it by now as movie goers. I mean it happens about 90% of the time with sequals. No big deal I guess.
