Review of Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) by Madpeanut — 24 Nov 2018
This wasn't as enjoyable as the first. It felt like they constructed a narrative around an agenda instead of just telling a good story as a continuation of the first. I didn't feel invested in the movie plot or characters.
The first half of the movie was pretty good, they teamed up, were going on an adventure and then in the second half it falls apart and the movie loses it's momentum and crashes, slowly...it starts to drag on.
Vanellope isn't happy (after gaining recognition in the game, becoming a fan favorite because of her glitch but now wants to live a life with risk and danger) while her friend risks his neck to help her and then is left behind.
It's just a mess of a story, it hits the theme that men are terrible, dumb and worthless while the main character should be supported to abandon her friends, family (and game), be dishonest with her "best friend" which makes him do dumb stuff because.
.. he's insecure and she bares no fault. I don't know, it just feels like the trend is to bash male characters and put female characters making bad decisions on a pedestal. Why does one have to lose to make the other "win" instead of them adventuring together, fighting some bad guys and winning together? Also, "Ralphs WRECKS the internet" would have been a better title, you know, because "Wreck-it Ralph".
.. but no, lets go with "break" instead.
