Review of Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) by Sam B — 23 Nov 2018

This movie is practically a love letter to google, twitter, fandango, amazon, especially ebay. It is one long advertisement directed at kids for these companies as well as practically every single intellectual property Disney owns. It was sickening how much they just beat you over the head with the product placements. I realize that it takes place in the internet and those are the websites mentioned above are some common websites, but I feel like they could have easily made parodies or fake sites to deliver the same concepts w/o shlocking all these products on kids (they did this for alot of the characters and places important to the plot). Its really sleezy that Disney, one of the biggest corporations in the world, would do this in a kids movie. Its not like they need the money. They definitely didnt break the bank making this movie.

It reminded me of the blatant product placement in the movies from the 80s snd 90s. I would not let my kid watch this. Disney should be ashamed of itself!

ALSO, the bastardized use of Starwars characters was cheep and confirmed my fears of what would happen when they bought Lucasfilms. They have proved to me that they dont really care about the quality the starwars franchise, all they care about is squeezing every penny out of it and using it to promote all their other franchises. They throw all these stormtroopers and c3po in there just bc they can. It didnt further the plot, it just felt like they were trying to sell their new starwars attraction at disneyland.

In conclusion, Disney has shown that it only cares about making money and will do it anyway it can even if that means subliminally and often blatantly filling up up their CHILDRENS MOVIE with nothing but advertisments! SHAME ON YOU DISNEY!!! You could easily make a movie w completely original characters but instead you decided to get greedy and push as much product placement as you could.
