Review of Raising Cain (1992) by Kahfess K — 26 Feb 2004
[size=2]Starring: John Lithgow, Lolita Davidovich, Steven Bauer, Frances Sternhagen.
This suspense thriller starts off with Carter (John Lithgow) and a neighbor lady Karen at the park with their two small children. Carter (John Lethgow) ends up bumming a ride from the neighbor lady claiming that his wife must have gotten busy at the hospital and forgotten to pick he and his small daughter Amy, up at the park.
Along the way to drop Cater off, they get into a conversation about raising children. Cater announces that Amy (Carter?s daughter) will be traveling out of the country to be studied in a control group. The developmental studies needed more children than the one though, and that is where Karen?s three year old son comes into play.
Carter ends up drugging her, and snatching her child. But during the kidnapping, the viewer is introduced to what they think is the twin brother of Carter. It?s not until later in the film that the viewer discovers that this isn?t the twin brother of Carter, but one of Carters personalities.
This movie allows the viewer to see the many faces of Carter, or rather Cain. (Lithgow portrays the two brothers as well as the father in this movie.).
Lolita Davidovich does a super job portraying the wife of Carter. She?s a nurse in a local hospital, who?s old flame (Steven Bauer) pays her a visit. Unbeknownst to her, the evil side of her husband is lurking just under the surface ready to spring into twisted action.
This movie has love, betrayal, sadness and joy weaved with cruelty and deception all rolled into one film.
