Review of Raising Cain (1992) by Terri H — 26 Mar 2009
It's like Brian DePalma's "Whose Line is it Anyway" - the rules are made up and the points don't matter. Neat camerawork but I'd be more impressed with the odd plot structure if it actually held together better once everything gets revealed.
(Well, not everything.) One thing I do like is how the performers seem to get how weird the movie is and fight fire with fire; I thought Lithgow was a little spooky even before this, but Lolita Davidovich is memorably (and deliberately, I think) a bit off here as well, acting about a half beat behind the pace of the movie as if her character doesn't understand her own motivation any better than the audience does.
