Review of Raising Arizona (1987) by Peter F — 31 Jul 2013
The most overtly comedic of the Coens Brothers film, and arguably the film that set the tone for their lighter fare. A screwball comedy through and through, but Raising Arizona has appealing elements of a western in it, along with the comical surrealism that the Coens excel at.
It also has plenty of the rich characters, and clever camera work the two brothers are known for, and it serves as a real telling reminder about how eclectic they are with conveying moods. The brothers have expressed that they had writers block on this one, which explains why it isn't their most thought out or original film, but it's undeniably one of their most fun and optimistic.
