Review of Raising Arizona (1987) by Joseph G — 30 Apr 2016
I expected Raising Arizona to be much more off the wall than it was, at the root of it is a story of a screwed up couple who wants a kid. Nicholas Cage's corky hair do and the trove of exaggerated facial expression are a nice touch for the film.
The dialogue is riddled with sarcastic lines of dry humor. Even the last line of the film that takes a shot at The state of Utah, suggesting that's the state you end up in when you have a large happy family.
I liked Raising Arizona, but I prefer the Cohen brothers when they are writing dramatic stories. This film does not begin to compare to their pair of epic classics "Millers Crossing" and "No Country For Old Men".
