Review of Raising Arizona (1987) by Rudy M — 19 May 2012
Wow. How did I stumble across a movie that's almost 25 years old? With Nic Cage even! I'm such a big fan of his more recent work (ahem).
Raising Arizona tells an awkward story about ex-con and ex-cop newlyweds H.I. (Cage) and Edwina (Holly Hunter, a young couple who can't have children of their own. So they decide to steal an infant. Then all kind of craziness ensues.
This must be one of Cage's better performances. His acting fits well with the script. But if that says more about the script than his acting, I don't know.
The movie isn't a 9 out of 10 all the way through, but easily gets an 8/10 for its witty and funny dialogue. It's quotes are memorable and timed perfectly.
I wish more movies were made like these nowadays. Instead we get piles of crap like "One For The Money" (AVOID THAT ONE!).
Verdict: go see!
