Review of Raise the Red Lantern (1991) by Jared R — 01 Aug 2007
Deliberately paced, but thoroughly engrossing. Aside from the symbolism of Chinese rule, the film is a powerful tale of manipulation, trust, identity, purpose, and greed. The visual composition is flawless and the performances are wonderful.
