Review of Raise the Red Lantern (1991) by Priscilla L — 21 Sep 2011
I love the slow pace of this movie. It is very clear on what it wants us to concentrate on, mainly the visuals and the women. The other aspects are all kept to a minimum, which makes this film very easy to follow, because the audience isn't distracted. The story itself is exceptional, and so is the cast. 5 stars because I can't see how it can be improved further. I love the main theme and all the symbolisms.
Due to the slow pace and the emotional intensity of this movie, this is a movie best watched alone with no distractions.
