Review of Raise the Red Lantern (1991) by Irish E — 29 May 2010
Raise the Red Lantern is a interesting period drama to watch. It is very well written. So much happens in a year, and yet it seems that every day is the same. The ending is certainly a surprise. It is one of my favorite films.
The one stand out in the film, was the actress who played the young maid, who wanted to be the next wife, Yan'er. Her name is Lin Kong. She took over that role and made it her own. In my opinion she was the star of the movie. I hope to be able to see her in other roles.
