Review of Rain Man (1988) by Jan Briane A — 05 Jul 2013
This is already the 3rd film I've watched of Dustin Hoffman, and he's yet again outdone himself. His acting is so natural, so believable, so touching, and so human that I don't think I'll be able to disassociate him from this particular role in my lifetime. Apart from the film's educational value, especially with its pretty accurate depiction of autistic savants, Dustin Hoffman is the best reason one has in watching this film.
Now I don't really like Tom Cruise, but I gotta say he was able to play his part well in this film. As a matter of fact, if this was the only film he made I'd actually like the guy. Cruise and Hoffman worked well as an ensemble; there was an undeniable chemistry, and it was this chemistry that gave the film the needed boost to become an emotional powerhouse.
Factoring in other elements, including a very strong and witty screenplay, superb cinematography, and deft direction, the film gave off a timeless feel and is sure to touch the hearts of more viewers for generations to come.
