Review of Rain Man (1988) by Arun Lal P — 11 Nov 2010
Never seen this, and actually really liked it. Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman have a great chemistry through out the movie. I found it odd that the thing this movie is probably the most famous for in pop culture (the Vegas part) is like a C or D plot in the film. The film is much more about Tom Cruises relationship with his father and brother Raymond. Kudos for keeping the ending as it was, it ends up being quite a touching film without being overly sappy. Tom Cruise maybe totally crazy, but I seem to always end up liking almost every movie I see him in, and he's def. a good and dedicated actor (see the recent absolutely crazy pictures of him, not a stunt person, hanging off the side of the Burj Dubai to see what I'm talking about).
Interesting note to film score nerds such as myself, this was Han Zimmers first Hollywood score...and to be honest it kind of shows. Lots of weird pan flute. But it was the 80's, so I'll give him a pass.
