Review of Rain Man (1988) by Rachel G — 11 Aug 2011
Although this movie is self gratifying and steroetypical, it was and still is a ground breaking 'hollywood' insight into a complex and often misunderstood disability. No not all people who suffer with Autism are math geniuses, but yes they are all wonderful and inspiring human beings who if given the chance give us all an insight into a often scary and insular world that many of us will never experience.
Gladly this movie has been followed by more realistic films such as Temple Grandin, I am thankful the main character was given to a gifted actor such as Dustin Hoffman, who did his best with the limited knowledge of the spectrum disorder at the time.
