Review of Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) by Todd H — 15 Oct 2012
Seriously, name another director who has made as many iconic films as Steven Spielberg. How about half as many as Spielberg? The only argument regarding said director would be, which one is his best film? Put this one on the list, alongside "Jaws", "Close Encounters", "ET", "Schindler's List", and "Saving Private Ryan".
Even when not at his best ("The Terminal", "AI", "Minority Report", "Lost World"), the results are, at worst, merely O.K.. (Alright, "1941" was a bad movie.
) Credit must also be given here to George Lucas (Indy was his idea) and Harrison Ford (in his best role). Some movies you can skip over chapters or fast forward through. Not this one, as every frame from beginning to end has such an obvious joy in the technical craft of filmmaking.
