With superb acting, the film wisely spends more time focusing on LaMotta's life outside the ring, with the boxing scenes flying by quickly. DeNiro and Pesci are a given to do well when with Scorsese, but Cathy Moriarty's Vikki is the revelation, as this was her first ever film role.
