Review of Raging Bull (1980) by Stephen B — 20 Apr 2011
The Social Network, I'm sorry to break this to you but you have been replaced. Raging Bull is officially the best biographical feature I have seen yet in my entire life. This, believe it or not, is the first Scorcese film I have seen and I have fallen in love with him.
Let me assure you, I will soon be buying all his other work. De Niro gives a stunning performance in this film, as per usual, and really portrays the ordeals of Jake LaMotta who I dare say is one of the most interesting people I have learnt about.
I always put off watching this because I despise boxing, but I cannot fault this film to the extent it has inspired me to check out more boxing films. For me, this film is perfect simply because I would not change anything about it.
The black and white picture really improves it and the strange thing is that I do not know why. But this film is five stars, one hundred percent and ten out of ten. Pure brilliance.
