Review of Raging Bull (1980) by Adam H — 05 Sep 2011
This famous picture from Martin Scorsese is about the true story of boxer Jake LaMotta. The film stars Robert De Niro as the famous boxer. The film also stars Joe Pesci as Joey LaMotta. We watch this young boxer rise through the ranks looking for his title shot.
I was not that familiar of this boxer till I watched this film. He was a great boxer but lead a troubled life away from the ring. From mobsters wanting him to rig fights to his constant paranoia that his wife was cheating on him.
This often lead to him being controlling or abusive to his wife and family. When you watched this you didn't come out of this having too much respect for this man. Sure he was a great boxer but as a person he was kind of a jerk.
I can see why this film won many awards. From the direction of Martin Scorsese to the great performances from De Niro and Pesci this was a great watch. The film is long but needed for the story of this interesting man.
Well worth the time to check out.
