Review of Raffles (1930) by Ken T — 15 Nov 2010
English gentleman and jewel thief A.J. Raffles has been dubbed "The Amateur Cracksman" played by the terrific Ronald Colman. He has decided to quit the business of robbing people and go straight after meeting the love of his life.
However, at the very first opportunity where his "skills" are needed again Raffles is back in the game - except now a Scotland Yard detective is on his trail. Both men are equally arrogant in confidence and are assured in getting what they want.
Colman perfectly embodies the English gent with loose morals. A familiar story that moves quickly, but does not offer much more than that. It is noted that this film was clearly made before the Hayes Code came into effect.
