Review of Radio Days (1987) by Will D — 25 Jul 2007
A light breezy tale from Woody Allen about the glory days of radio as seen from both sides of the speaker, a family of devoted listeners and the stars who ruled the airwaves. This is a much more mellow and easygoing Woody film, and it's a welcome change from his usual fare of relationship and everyday life angst (not that there's anything wrong with those movies).
Radio Days is filled with all of his usual wit and style, plus a good cast with several nice cameos and a lavish Oscar nominated production design. Let's give it to Woody (who narrates) again for being able to fit in so much material into films that run little more than 80 minutes.
Always nice to have a movie that feels like 2 hrs. that is in fact little more than 1 hr. and 20 mins.
