Review of Rachel Getting Married (2008) by Peter A — 30 Jan 2010
'Hi I'm Kym and I'm an addict.' From these lines you know you are not watching an typical Anne Hathaway rom-com. Done in a documentary style its a tale of a drug addict coming out of rehab for her sisters wedding, causing chaos and confronting the demons of her past.
Hathaway is outstanding closely followed by Bill Irwin's 'dad'. There are some jaw-dropping moments as when the dad is handed his son's plate. Watch it and you'll see what I mean. Its a bit of a cliche that weddings bring out the dysfunctional side of all families but this is a film of which Mike Leigh would have been proud.
