Review of Rachel Getting Married (2008) by Stewart W — 10 Nov 2011
Anne Hathaway's astonishing performance is only one of the highlights of this brilliantly realized family portrait. Jonathan Demme and screenwriter Jenny Lumet capture--- with great nuance, restraint, and naturalism--- the dynamics of a family.
To watch this movie is to see life unfold; the happiness, the sadness, the angst, the bonds, and most tragically, the unresolved. Because in life, not everything gets tied up in a neat bow; a confrontation between two people one day isn't necessarily resolved the next day.
Maybe it never gets resolved. It is only awkwardly left in the air. Because even after the wedding (a wonderful one at that), old wounds still remain, painful memories linger, and everyone must get on w/ his or her life.
