Review of Rachel Getting Married (2008) by Jeffh — 21 Oct 2008
I am sympathetic to those who give this film a bad review, and who walked out feeling terrible. We all have stress and dysfunction in our families, why pay to see this stuff? And yet, I have to say on reflection, this is one of the best movies I've ever seen.
Why? The level of reality Demme achieved, as if you were actually watching real people, is astounding. The lived in feel of the house and the random friends all felt very genuine. And the nuanced performances of almost everyone in the film are to be applauded.
I can't say I enjoyed this movie, but I was fascinated throughout, and thrilled by seeing something truly unique.
