Review of Rabid (1977) by Ollie W — 07 Nov 2011
Hilarious and revolting story of Rose (Real-life Porn-Star Marilyn Chambers) first, the unfortunate victim of a grotesque motorbike accident, then some unorthodox and experimental skin graft surgery and finally the unceremonious arrival of a rather phallic, blood lusting arm-pit protrusion, whose victims begin to develop a George A Romero-like state of craziness.
Cronenberg's direction is awesome and the story, though completely madcap, keeps a good hold on it's various metaphors - particularly the sudden arrival of gun violence and state control in 1970's Canada.
