Review of Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002) by Ac _ — 28 Mar 2008
The history of Australia's Lost Generation, the persecuted aboriginals who were taken from their homes to be sent to be re-civilised to White standards. The story of three half-caste children who attempt to make it back home, following a fence which goes across the country.
The aboriginal actors were brilliant in this must watch film, especially Sampi the lead role in this film. Although for me this film really does well thanks to Kenneth Branagh; The whole way through the film he is trying to justify the racist practices of Australia in the early 20th century, and in the process giving a brilliant understanding of this underlying racism which can be seen today. Whenever people talk about the uncivilised areas of the world such as Afghanistan or parts of Africa I think about this film. How ideas of superiority especially of Western liberalism is used to persecute individuals who are different to them.
