Review of Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002) by Hannibal O — 07 Aug 2008
Great film. With The Quiet American coming out the same year, Phillip Noyce cemented himself as Mr. Bad Ass Director. The 3 girls in the film don't have much to say and they don't need to - you can see everything in their eyes and they deliver very good performances.
The look of the film is great - at times, it reminded me of 1970s/1960s Panavision-stock films. The story is very interesting and emotional and it was nice to see a story that most people probably don't know anything about (at least non-Australians).
Ken Branagh gives a decent performance - nothing special actually. Anyway, check the film out.
