Review of Rabbit Hole (2010) by Bernie F — 29 Jun 2013
RABBIT HOLE is a shockingly simple film that will totally sneak up on you after you've left the theater. Never maudlin, I was truly astonished by Nicole Kidman's performance and by the character herself.
This is my kind of gal. Mourning the loss of her child, she refuses to give in to the current cultures accepted and morose method of dealing with death. This a real person in a real story. A very genuine work that shows the impact of loss on an entire family and beyond.
Again, the film seems direct and simple but it's not. Kudos to Mitchell's direction. Loved him in HEDWIG and he once again proves he's a talented filmmaker. Just one very bad and intrusive error, the score is sappy and sentimental to the max at times totally undermining all that is achieved in this film.
Re-score the film, and it would be just about perfect. And again, I must add, this is Kidman's best, most natural and human performance ever.
