Review of Rabbit Hole (2010) by Vryan P — 22 Apr 2011
Wow, this is the same guy who directed Shortbus? That may be the biggest range of film out there. Not having kids, perhaps I just didn't get this one. In the end, a nice, slow drama but nothing I've never seen before.
Kidman is okay. Eckhart is often hard to take too seriously, but he shows a little more in this one. Blanchard plays a less significant role but this movie has elements of Bella, which has a similar theme of sorts and is one of my favorite movies. The movie is also similar to The Door in the Floor, but I prefer that movie more because it actually does something.
This movie is just too flat. I don't mind the grieving, it just does nothing for the movie. Parents of a dead child can mourn however long they choose, really, but the writer/director of a movie regarding such really need to show it in a different way for it to be effective on the big screen.
