Review of R... Rajkumar (2013) by Jasrick J — 07 Dec 2013
R... Rajkumar is a enjoyable masala entertainer for Prabhu Deva,it's what you except from the director. The film is loaded with action, laughs, dialogue baazi, and pyar pyar pyar. For viewers who like masala entertainers they will pyar pyar pyar this film, but for pseudo intellectuals they will maar maar maar themselves for watching this film.
The films is story is about Romeo Rajkumar entering a village where 2 drug lords, Shivraj and Parmar are battling it out too become the biggest drug kingpin of there village. Both work for a business man who hails from foreign Ajit Takka, both have pissed him off and left him with no drugs. Meanwhile Rajkumar joins Shivraj's gang and helps him make Parmar's gang weak. He however can not concentrate on his work properly because he has fallen in love with a girl named Chanda while both gangs were fighting it out, he saved her life. He follows her, makes her mad, and eventually she falls for him too. However Shivraj spots Chanda at a Mandhir and falls in love with her too. She happens to be Parmar's niece, he to stop there war, arranges for there marriage. Rajkumar when he finds this out gets angry beats up Shivraj's goons and tells him he will marry Chanda on the day he planned Dussehara, if Shivraj is a real man he will stop him. Does Chanda marry Rajkumar, Does Rajkumar deal with Shivraj, and does Takka get his drugs forms the main plot.
Acting wise its a Shahid Kapoor show all the way. He shines in the masala avatar, he fights, he spits dialogues, romances and makes you laugh all in one frame. One of his finest performances. Sonakshi Sinha does a good job . Sonu Sood, Mukul Dev, and Ashish Vidyarthi are perfect for there part and are first rate.
Prabhu Deva does a good job and makes a film that entertains throughout its duration. However this is far away from his finest attempts RR and Wanted. This is because the film is predictable, and the second half is sluggish and could be trimmed by 15 min. The film has no novelty. The music, action and dialogues however are great. Also there couple of twists at the end that work, and take the film too a high, like the Takka, and Mukul Dev twist.
Overall if you enjoy masala entertainers and like to whistle, and clap during a film R... Rajkumar is a must watch. For me though I enjoyed the film but I am getting tired of the same formula films every couple of weeks, I don't mind the masala genre, but there is room to make this genre novel too. Normal I would have rated this film higher but I am giving it 3/5*.
