Review of Quintet (1979) by Barry C — 27 Dec 2010
Wow, Robert Altman had some grim moments early in his career. This movie is so dour, so bleak in both palette and plot, that I wouldn't recommend you watch it this winter at all. Fernando Rey must have made a career out of playing the decadent intellectual.
He reprised it so often for Bunuel, now he does it for Altman. And Paul Newman's strangest role by far, too bad he doesn't get much of a range to exploit in this role. Some famous names in support roles.
Worth sitting through for sure.
