Review of Quintet (1979) by Steven C — 20 Mar 2011
My favorite Altman movie is "Quintet". I have at least four copies on different media. I love it because it is drenched with dread. I am fascinated by the rules of the game. The Montreal "Man and his World" sets are gorgeous.
The cast is literally stellar. It was ENTIRELY filmed in below-freezing temperatures (at Altman's insistence). When I am feeling really depressed, watching this film improves my mood. It affirms that life actually is a veil of tears.
