Review of Quills (2000) by Sasha C — 09 Jul 2008
House of insanity , erotica and overwhelmed by a man named Marquis De Sade(Geoffrey Rush) , the porn novel maker trapped in a hospital for insanity . His erotic thought never stop just only because of his luxury cage in the hospital , with help of one of his biggest fan named Madeline(Kate Winslet) , who worked as maid there , he could continue his erotic novels and sold them out to outer hospital . But, it's not so easy , there was a shameless Doctor Royer-Collard ( Michael Caine ) who tried hard to make Marquis De Sade stopped writing his erotic novels forever . But , Royer-Collard with helped of Coulmier couldn't even stop Marquis .
Start the comment from me :
Quills is one of the unpredictably erotic and crazy movie with it's crazy insane thoughts and of course the insane script .
The movie itself just very very wicked with it's casts . The setting of old French in Chanteron asylum just very very appealing .
Watching Quills will make you really think and see the insanity since old times .
Geoffrey Rush's performance just very breathtaking and very full of braveness , supported by Kate Winslet behind him , Marquis De Sade will enchant you with his insanity .
Kate Winslet really support him here , her role as the maid here really fantastic and helping .
Michael Caine did his role as antagonist ( for Marquis De Sade ) or you can say protagonist to us with enjoyable acting , but he's a bit' weak at the end .
Joaquin Pheonix was sank among this casts , his acts just quite memorable at the end , but at the beginning who cares about him ?
His role is quite challenging and very hypocrite , an asylum abbé Coulmier ,his intonation and the volume of his voice weren't appealing at the beginning but at the end , he 'released' them all .
The directing , not so unique but nice , with the storytelling directing , the directing fitted automatically with the story the movie and everything else .
