This was pretty decent. It definitely had the top notch cast to make it good, and it certainly did. It's a bit of a shame that most people know Geoffrey Rush from the Pirates movies because he's wickedly enjoyable as the Marquis de Sade here.
He plays tortured well here and it appears that he has a good time doing it too. Michael Caine is a great bad guy in here. Joaquin Phoenix and Kate Winslet are really good in supporting roles as well.
Whether or not it is historically accurate wasn't something I was interested in. The performances are enough to make it enjoyable.
