Review of Quest for Camelot (1998) by Tyler F — 27 Apr 2011
Nice try, Warner Bros., but boy did you fail when it comes to execution.
First of all, most of the songs are just dumb, badly-placed, and forgettable except for "The Prayer". In fact, I can't count how many places songs are in where it ISN'T needed.
Second of all, there is too much rip-off-Disney elements in terms of similar animation, character shticks, and cliches. You could totally tell that Kayley and Garrett would get married by movie's end. While Disney Movies make it timeless, this doesn't.
Third, the movie TRIED to make Kayley a strong, female character, but failed on that. All she was good at was getting captured, running, and talking. She had to be saved by a blind man and a FREAKIN' CHICKEN!
Finally, the movie spent too much money on animation, celebrity casting, and songwriting that it forgot to get a good script.
I only watched this movie ONCE and now, thirteen years later, I'm ashamed to have seen it. I'm glad it got looked over for better movies like "Mulan" and "Bug's Life", which are both excellent animated movies.
